Virginia In The Rain |
| Artist: |
Gabriel Keller
|
| Album: |
Finally Alive |
| Description: |
Guitar, Xylophone and Me, in a folk pop song.
|
| Notes: |
I wrote this when a few months after I got back from that trip I told you about in the info of Don't You See and it is, more or less, about that trip. We did, among other places, go to Virginia and it did rain and it was amazing. It was wonderful, it was beautiful. Not just the rain, and not particularly Virginia, the whole trip was an amazing experience. (Virginia in the Rain was just an anology, but i think its a catchy title).
When I got back home, there was a point when I realized that it was gone and I could never relive it. And when I got back, for a while, i was really confused, I think (and im analyzing myself here) that the trip was such an overload on my mind, meeting all these new people, going all these places. It was a start of school trip and hardly anyone knew eachother. Plus, I had just returned from a year trip to Peru. But it was wonderful and im so glad i got to write this song about it.
The melody just came to me. I had the lyrics (only the first verse and chorus, I wrote the rest several months later) and it came to me. Well, I went through some versions of the chorus and changed the original lyrics a bit, but yeah...The middle eight thing ("and it hurts") also came in one go.I wrote this when a few months after I got back from that trip I told you about in the info of Don't You See and it is, more or less, about that trip. In this new version, the key is lower so my voice sounds better, the guitar part is fun and the xylophone too, but it gets a bit distorted at parts. I hate that, and i could have fixed it, but i was lazy. maybe later...

| Lyrics: |
It sounds so appealing, sometimes
When I am feeling, just fine
And it’s a cloudless sky today
Just like yesterday
The skies are clearing, and it
Feels so demeaning to think
I might forget it all someday
Hey-hey
Now I’ve tripped,
Falling into routine
And she’s slipped,
Fading from my dreams.
The raindrops,
Emotion dripping from the blue
Now the rain’s stopped
And I long to return to
Virginia in the Rain
Cause here it’s not the same,
No,
Here it’s not the same.
The realization that yesterday’s gone
Hold me closer, hold me closer, hold me
I remember
The little things
The green grass
The flicker of the fire
The beautiful laughs
The first time I sat beside her
And time goes by
Things change and disappear
And I know why
It’s so we’ll love them while they’re here
But it hurts
Cause the feeling’s still there
And it burns
Because nothing can compare
And it hurts
And I,
Was so alive
In Virginia in the Rain
Cause here it’s not the same.
No,
Here it’s no the same.
